No, we have a network of dealerships throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. For details of your nearest Hunter Stoves dealer contact: sales@hunterstoves.co.uk or telephone: 0044 (0) 1392 841744.

However we can supply stove spares on a pro-forma basis (cheque payment only).

I have an old stove that I think is a ‘Hunter’, can I still get spares for it?

We do still have some spares available for the older Hunter stoves. Please check the 'Archive' section which will help you determine which stove you have.

Flues and Chimneys

The chimney will determine how well your stove performs. A poor chimney system will directly affect the efficiency of the stove. Any existing flue must be swept and inspected before installation of the appliance by a competent person.

General Information

Until recently flues were characterised as:

  • Class 1 Flues are suitable for woodburning and multi-fuel stoves.
  • Class 2 Flues are suitable for gas and oil fired stoves only

However this designation has now changed due to harmonisation of European standards.

For further clarification of current flue types please contact your local flue stockist/dealer, or details can be found in the current Building Regulations – Document J, CLICK HERE:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my chimney suitable; do I need to line it?

Every installation is different, therefore your local dealer/installer will be able to advise you on this once a site survey has been conducted. To find your local dealer please e-mail: sales@hunterstoves.co.uk

I don’t have a chimney, what do I do?

There are many different flue systems available on the market. Please contact your local dealer/ flue installer who will be able to give best advice.

Can I connect two stoves to one flue system?

No. All Hunter Stoves products must be individually flued.

My stove has a 6" flue collar, can I install it on a 5" flue?

No, The internal diameter of the flue must be no smaller than the appliance flue collar for it’s entire length.

Fuel

The quality of fuel that is burnt will dictate the performance of your Hunter Stove.

Woodburning

Burn only dry, well seasoned wood, which should have been cut split and stacked for at least 12 months. Burning wet or unseasoned wood will create tar deposits in the stove and chimney and will not produce a satisfactory heat output.

Wood burns best on a bed of ash and it is therefore only necessary to remove surplus ash from the stove occasionally.

Solid Fuel Burning

Anthracite is an approved natural smokeless fuel (not processed) and therefore can vary greatly in quality and performance. It generally requires excellent air supply to maintain maximum performance and with experience we would suggest that it is used in conjunction with other approved manufactured smokeless fuels as per the HETAS approved list.

The HETAS Ltd approved fuel list only covers the use of the following manufactured fuels in a closed appliance:-

Coalite Coalite Nuts Blazebrite Homefire
Homefire Ovals Phurnacite Mixed Nuts Ancit
Taybrite Sunbrite Doubles Newflame Supacite
Maxibrite Fireglo Ovoids Dragonbrite

Only authorised smokeless fuels may be used in smoke control areas.

Warning! - Petroleum coke fuels or household waste must not be burnt on our appliances.SFA logo

Should any difficulties arise over fuel quality or suitability consult your approved coal merchant or the Solid Fuel Advisory Service – Telephone 0800 600 000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I burn wood on my multi-fuel grate?

Yes, all Hunter Stoves multi-fuel appliances are capable of burning wood.

I own a wood burner, can I convert this to burn multi-fuel.

Yes, All Hunter stoves woodburners can be converted to multi-fuel stoves by means of a conversion kit. The prices for these kits can be found on this website or contact – sales@hunterstoves.co.uk

Can I burn diesel in my oil fired stove?

No. Hunter Oil stoves are designed to run on Kerosene Class C2 (Formerly known as 28 sec Kerosene).

Can I convert my wood burner to gas/oil fired?
No. Each Hunter Stoves appliance is designed differently so that the best efficiency can be achieved from the relevant fuel type.

There are 2 types of boilers fitted to Hunter stoves:

  • Clip-in Boiler – This type of boiler can be retrofitted and generally has a lower output.
  • Wrap-around Boiler – This is part of the body fab and cannot be removed. It has a much higher output than a clip-in boiler.

The sizing and type of your boiler is critical to the output of your hot water/ central heating system. All installations by their nature are different and advice should be sought from your dealer/installer/plumber.

A clip in boiler installation should have an additional means of access to the flue system to allow cleaning. This can be achieved by the means of a soot door in the first length of flue pipe.

A 'clip-in' boiler can work on a direct system if it is only heating hot water. This is due to the boiler being made of stainless steel.

All wrap-around boilers and central heating systems incorporating radiators must not be connected to a direct hot water system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you supply me a central heating circuit diagram?

No. Due to every system being different this is impossible to do. We would recommend that you contact a competent heating engineer. DIY installation is not advised!

Can I connect a new stove to my existing central heating system?

The stove should not be linked into an existing system with a separate boiler without the use of a suitable neutralizer. When fitting this type of system the neutralizer manufacturers instructions must be followed.

Can I connect to a pressurised system?

Under no circumstances should the stove be in any way connected to a sealed (pressurised) system or unvented hot water storage cylinder.

Can I run my boiler stove disconnected?

No, The stove should not be fired with the boiler disconnected or empty as this could cause serious damage to the appliance.

I am thinking about purchasing a boiler stove, what output ranges are there?

  Approximate output to:
Appliance Total Output
(kW)
Boiler Type Water
(kW)
Air
(kW)
Hunter Herald 6 7 Clip-in 3.5 3.5

Can the flat top stove accommodate the full size wraparound boiler or is that only an option on the stoves with canopies?

The wraparound boiler option is available on flat top, low canopy and high canopy models of the relevant appliances.

Ventilation
Ventilation requirements for the Hunter Stoves range must comply with current Building Regulations – Document J.

As a general guide any stove with an output higher than 5kW requires additional room ventilation. Advice should be sought from a competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a very large room and a stove that is rated over 5kW, do I still need an air vent

Yes. If the appliance is over 5kW it needs an air-vent.
